The Velvet Underground war eine amerikanische Rockband, die 1964 in New York City gegründet wurde. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung bestand aus dem Sänger/Gitarristen Lou Reed, dem Multiinstrumentalisten John Cale, dem Gitarristen Sterling Morrison und Schlagzeuger Angus MacLise. MacLise wurde 1965 durch Moe Tucker ersetzt, die auf den meisten Aufnahmen der Band spielte.
