Lyle Mays ist ein Jazz-Pianist. Bekannt wurde er durch die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Gitarristen Pat Metheny. Er ist Mitbegründer und war bis zum Ende Mitglied der Pat Metheny Group. Auch wenn er selbst als Solokünstler nur vier Alben herausbrachte, ist sein Einfluß auf die Entwicklung des Jazz als klavierspieler mit hohem Wiedererkennungswert und als genialer Arrangeur nicht zu unterschätzen.
