Stephanie Mills wurde am 22.03.1957 in Brooklyn, NY geboren.

Die musikalische Karriere von Stephanie Mills begann, als sie elf Jahre alt war. Damals gewann sie die “Amateur Night” im New Yorker Apollo Theater und bekam ihre erste Broadway-Rolle in dem Musical „Maggie Flynn“. 1973 durfte sie für die Isley Brothers im Background singen, ein Jahr später entdeckte Jermaine Jackson ihr Talent als Solokünstlerin.
