Brandi Carlile wurde am 1. Juni 1981 in Ravensdale bei Seattle im US-Bundesstaat Washington geboren.

Aufgewachsen ist Brandi Carlile in ihrer ländlichen Heimat mit Countrymusik; mit acht Jahren stand sie erstmals mit ihrer Mutter auf der Bühne. Danach entdeckte sie mehr die Rockmusik für sich und ging mit 17 Jahren nach Seattle, wo sie als Solo- und Begleitmusikerin auftrat.
