Die Sparks sind eine heute noch aktive Rockband um die Brüder Ron und Russell Mael, die Ende der 60er Jahre in Los Angeles gegründet wurde. Ron Mael (Ronald David Mael, * 12. August 1945 in Culver City/Kalifornien) bekam schon als Kind Klavierunterricht. Als Sohn eines Grafikers und der Bibliothekarin Mary Martin wuchs er in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles auf. In seiner Kindheit war er Modell für einen Kleiderkatalog.
