Sonny Rollins (Theodore Walter Rollins) ist einer der einflussreichsten Jazz-Saxophonisten. So löste Rollins wesentlich die Improvisation von der Bindung an das melodische Thema und erfand damit quasi die Möglichkeit freier Assoziationsketten.
Geboren am 7. September 1930 in New York City, USA, startete er zunächst als Pianist, wechselte dann zum Altsaxophon und kam 1946 zum Tenorsaxophon. 1949 nahm er mit Babs Gonzalez seine erste Schallplatte auf. Read more on Last.fm
