Joni Mitchell, CC (* 7. November 1943 in Fort Macleod, Alberta/Kanada; als Roberta Joan Anderson) ist eine kanadische Musikerin und Malerin. Sie gehörte zu den bedeutendsten Singer-Songwritern der 1970er und 1980er Jahre. Sie spielt Gitarre und Piano, Anfang der 1970er auch Dulcimer. Joni Mitchell wuchs in einer kanadischen Kleinstadt als einziges Kind eines Ladenbesitzers und einer Dorfschullehrerin auf. 1951 gab es eine Polio-Epidemie, und mit acht Jahren erkrankte sie an Kinderlähmung, wie auch der fünfjährige Neil Young.
