Brandy Norwood wird 1979 in McComb, Mississippi als ältestes Kind eines Pastors und einer Hausfrau geboren. Sie ist die ältere Schwester des Sänger und Schauspielers Ray-J (* 1981) und Cousine der Musiker Snoop Dogg und Bo Diddley.
