dredg ist eine amerikanische, teilweise experimentelle, Alternative/Progressive-Band. Sie wurde 1995 in der San Francisco Bay Area gegründet. Der Bandname bezieht sich auf das englische Verb to dredge, das soviel wie "Ausbaggern von Gewässern" bedeutet. Die Band hielt sich für härter als andere Bands, und ihr gefiel der "tiefschürfende" Name: "It's used in geology--you dredge rivers. We were heavier and we liked the thought of digging deeper."
