The Music entstand an der Brigshaw High School in Leeds im Jahre 1999. 2001 wurde der Song "Take the Long Road and Walk It" als Demo herumgereicht, noch bevor die 1000-Stück Single Pressung von Fierce Panda auf den Markt kam (was heute eine gesuchte Rarität ist). Von der englischen Musikzeitschrift NME als damalig beste Nachwuchsband gepriesen, bekam die Band rasch einen Plattvertrag und es folgte die erste EP " You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me".
