Ashanti (eigentlich Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas) wurde am 13. Oktober 1980 als Tochter einer Tanzlehrerin und eines Sängers in Glen Cove, New York geboren. Im Alter von sechs Jahren beginnt sie im lokalen Gospelchor zu singen; parallel dazu verfolgt sie eine professionelle Tanzausbildung am Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Centre, die ihr zur Teilnahme an lokalen TV-Talent-Shows verhilft. Von einem Agent entdeckt, tritt Ashanti später unter anderem in der Carnegie Hall, in diversen Musik-Clips und dem Disney Fernsehmusical Polly auf. Read more on Last.fm
