Leonard Bernstein (* 25. August 1918 in Lawrence, Massachusetts; † 14. Oktober 1990 in New York City) war ein US-amerikanischer Komponist, Dirigent und Pianist russisch-jüdischer Abstammung.

Leben

Bernstein wurde als Louis Bernstein geboren. Im Alter von 16 Jahren änderte er seinen Vornamen in Leonard, der bis dahin sein Rufname gewesen war.

Er studierte an der Harvard-Universität Klavier und Komposition. Bereits 1943 wurde er Assistant Conductor des New York Philharmonic Orchestra unter Artur Rodziński. Read more on Last.fm
