Vanessa Hudgens wurde in Salinas, Kalifornien geboren und wuchs in San Diego auf. Ihre jüngere Schwester Stella ist ebenfalls Schauspielerin. Ihr Vater, Greg Hudgens, hat irische und indianische Vorfahren und ihre Mutter, Gina Guangco, ist eine Filipina mit chinesischer und spanischer Abstammung.
