Ray Charles (* 23. September 1930 in Albany, Georgia; † 10. Juni 2004 in Beverly Hills, Kalifornien; gebürtig Raymond Charles Robinson) war ein US-amerikanischer Musiker, dessen Karriere über mehr als 50 Jahre andauerte.

Kindheit

Ray Charles Robinson, in Armut zur Zeit der Rassentrennung aufwachsend, erblindete im Alter von sieben Jahren an einem Glaukom. Neun Monate bevor er erblindete, musste er mit ansehen, wie sein Bruder starb. In einem Hinterhof in der Nähe der Siedlung, in der er wohnte, lernte er Klavierspielen. Read more on Last.fm
