Cassandra Wilson (* 4. Dezember 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi) wird zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts zu den populärsten Jazzsängerinnen gezählt. Sie ist zweifache Grammy-Gewinnerin.

Mit 9 Jahren erhält sie Klavierunterricht, mit 12 schreibt sie ihre ersten Songs. Nach einem erfolgreichen Studium der Kommunikationswissenschaft findet sie zunächst Arbeit in New Orleans. 1982 zieht sie schließlich nach New York City und arbeitet im Musikerkollektiv M-Base mit Steve Coleman.
