Zu Beginn der 90er Jahre gründen vier junge Burschen, die zuvor dieselbe Highschool in einem Ort namens Germantown im US Bundesstaat Maryland besuchten, die Band Clutch. Die Formation besteht aus Neil Fallon (Vocals), Tim Sult (Gitarre), Dan Maines (Bass) und Jean Paul Gaster (Drums). Ihre erste 7inch "Pitchfork" weckt Interesse bei diversen großen Plattenfirmen, bis schließlich der Major Eastwest die Band unter Vertrag nimmt.
