Gene war ein englisches Alternative-Rock-Quartett, das Mitte der neunziger Jahre an Bedeutung gewann. Sie wurden 1993 gegründet und im Volksmund als Britpop-Band bezeichnet. Wegen ihres morrissey-artigen Leadsängers Martin Rossiter wurden sie häufig mit The Smiths verglichen. Gens Musik wurde von The Jam, The Small Faces, The Style Council und The Clash beeinflusst.
