Brinsley Schwarz waren: Brinsley Schwarz, Gitarre, Saxophon; Nick Lowe, bass; Billy Rankin, Schlagzeug; Bob Andrews, Tasten; Ian Gomm, Gitarre.
Sie gründeten sich 1969 aus der Gruppe Kippington Lodge, die ein paar Singles, produziert von Mark Wirtz ( A Teenage Opera ), aufgenommen hatte. Sie spielten sechs Alben auf British Liberty/ UA ein. Ihr unprätentiöser Musikstil unterschied sich stark von dem, der Top Acts der frühen Siebziger.
