Townes Van Zandt (* 7. März 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas; † 1. Januar 1997 in Mount Juliet, Tennessee) war ein US-amerikanischer Musiker und Singer-Songwriter.

Townes Van Zandt wurde als Sohn einer wohlhabenden texanischen Familie geboren, die seit mehreren Generationen im Ölgeschäft tätig war und nach der eines der 254 Countys des Staates benannt ist.
