Gotye (ausgesprochen "go-ti-yea") ist das Alias des australischen electronic pop Tüftler Wally de Backer. Geboren in Belgien und aufgewachsen in Melbourne, begann de Backer als Teenie Musik in seinem Schlafzimmer zu machen und war für einige Jahre Leadsänger der Rockband Downstares. Nachdem sich die Gruppe aufgelöst hatte, bewegte er sich in Richtung cut-and-paste electronic music. 2003 wurde das erste Gotye Album 'Boardface' veröffentlicht.
