Die englische Punkband The Damned wurde 1976 von Dave Vanian (Sänger), Brian James (Gitarre), Captain Sensible (Bass und Sänger) sowie Rat Scabies (Schlagzeug) ins Leben gerufen.

Bedeutung

Beeinflusst von The Stooges, MC5, Ramones und den Sex Pistols bot die Gruppe energiegeladenen 3-Akkorde-Punk. Im Gegensatz zu den anarchistischen Sex Pistols oder radikalpolitischen The Clash stand bei The Damned immer der Spaß im Vordergrund, obwohl die Band nicht mit Sozialkritik sparte.
