The Lovin' Spoonful war eine US-amerikanische Popband, die Mitte der 1960er Jahre in New York City gegründet wurde.

John Sebastian ist der Sohn eines berühmten Harmonika-Spielers und begann seine musikalische Karriere gemeinsam mit Cass Elliot und Denny Doherty bei einer Band namens The Mugwumps. Nachdem letztere die Band verließen, um The Mamas and the Papas zu gründen, formierte Sebastian gemeinsam mit Zalman „Zal“ Yanovsky die Gruppe „The Lovin‘ Spoonful“.
